LEAP is a story that takes on the form of 12 flashcards, which I thought would offer you, dear audience, more room for your creative interpretation and to “fill in the blanks”, as well as the freedom to reorder and reorientate the cards to form new stories, for yourself or your friends. I hope you will also consider sending the work as individual postcards to faraway places (airmail preferred).
LEAP was originally written in Jan 2009 as a flash-fiction story about a tree that wanted to fly. In late 2014, I played with ideas to develop the story into a picture book for adults and began experimenting with visuals. In the process of doing so, I reflected upon my transition from public service to writing, and my progression from writing to art-making. Thus, besides presenting a confluence of literary and visual arts interests, this very personal work relates my apprehensions and aspirations, and is about taking a leap of faith in more ways than one.
Pameran Poskad 2015, which coincides with the end of the first semester of my formal Fine Art studies, presents a timely opportunity to put forth a limited edition first print of this work.
